As part of our ongoing commitment to the community at large, Vantage has a Corporate Citizen Program in place to support community programs which strive to enhance and improve welfare and the environment.
In 2009, the Vantage Corporate Citizen Program will be raising funds mainly for the charity Lavenda Springs. As the Corporate Citizen Program grows, we will incorporate other charities and initiatives to make sure we make a difference to the community.
Approximately 600 people die every day due to HIV/AIDS-related illnesses in Kenya. One of the worst consequences of HIV/AIDS in Kenya is that more than 1 million children under the age of fifteen have been orphaned.
At Lavenda Springs, we have built 5 children's houses in a village called Kivuli, in the Kenyan Nyandarua (Aberdare) Ranges. The homes can house 6 - 8 children with one 'house mum' to look after them. All of the children have lost both parents, so desperately need a good home environment for them to grow up in.
In addition, Lavenda Springs have built a Primary School, High School, Medical Centre, Hospital, leadership training centre and a TAFE (Vocational training programs)
Today Lavenda Springs is working with a network of schools encompassing nearly 1000 children. Lavenda is working with women's groups and microfinance and is in the process of building a college and eventually a university to train young men and women to make an impact in their nation.
